How to Type the Invisible Emoji on iPhone, Android, and Desktop

⌨️

While there's no dedicated invisible-emoji key on any keyboard, each major platform gives you a way to make typing 🫥 (or a genuinely blank character) faster than searching for it every time.

iPhone and iPad

Open Settings → General → Keyboard → Text Replacement, tap the plus icon, paste 🫥 into the Phrase field, and set a short shortcut like "inv" in the Shortcut field. From then on, typing "inv" anywhere on your device will automatically expand to the emoji.

Android

In Gboard, go to Settings → Dictionary → Personal dictionary, add a new entry, paste the emoji as the word, and assign a shortcut. Samsung Keyboard offers a similar option under its own text shortcuts menu. Once set up, the shortcut works across all apps that use that keyboard.

Windows

Windows has a built-in emoji picker you can open with Windows key + period (.). Search for "dotted line face" in the picker to insert 🫥 directly. For frequent use, Windows also supports text replacement through Microsoft's autocorrect settings in some apps.

macOS

Open the emoji picker with Control + Command + Space and search for "dotted." Alternatively, add a text replacement under System Settings → Keyboard → Text Replacements the same way you would on iOS, since the setting syncs across Apple devices signed into the same account.

The simplest option

If you only need the character occasionally, it's usually faster to copy it directly from this page than to set up a shortcut. Every card here has a one-tap Copy button that works identically across devices.
